المفتي الصلح أشاد بهذا الافطار الذي أُقيم تكريمًا لهؤلاء الطلاب ومنوهًا بالعاملين في المركز وبالنجاح المثمر بتعاونهم مع جمعية الامام الشاطبي لخدمة القرآن الكريم وعلومه. وتابع: إن مشاركة سعادة النائب ينال صلح والمخاتير والفاعليات؛ طلاب الحلقات في المركز إفطارهم زاد السرور والبهجة. وختم: نسأله سبحانه وتعالى أن يحمي هذا الوطن ببركة هذا الشهر الكريم وجميع بلاد المسلمين متمنيًا دوام التعاون المثمر لخدمة كتاب الله وأهله.

The Youth Club of Baalbeck (Shabab Baalbeck Club) paid a well-deserved tribute to an exemplary individual, Dr. Engineer Omar Ghassan Maloof, on the hallowed grounds of Baalbeck’s Sports City. Renowned in the construction industry, he stands tall as a knight of benevolence and generosity, bestowing his white-gloved, charitable hands on the sports and athletic community of Baalbeck and the entire Bekaa region.
Dr. Maloof, a true sports benefactor, actively encourages and supports young people’s participation in athletic endeavors, promoting the development of both the mind and the body. He comes from the Bekaa town of Niha and was raised in Zahle by a modest family. His upbringing instilled in him a deep compassion for others as well as a strong commitment to humanity. These early values enabled his future endeavors, which culminated in the establishment of an innovative development and construction company.
Despite his success as a successful Lebanese expatriate in the United States, his heart remains firmly attached to his homeland, Lebanon, and its people. The Lebanese superstar “Melhem Zein”, the son of Baalbeck, enthralled the audience of the Baalbeck International Festival with his singing, mesmerizing them with his music, dance, and joy, leaving them with wonderful memories and returning the old structures of Baalbeck to their previous splendor. “It is an honor for me to stand on the stage of this great monument, where my first inspiration and first love, Baalbeck the city of the sun emerged,” Melhem Zein remarked.
By performing around 20 of his best songs, and with his powerful and beautiful voice, Melhem Zein carried the audience to a realm of romance and dreams (Nami, Inti Mashiiti, Mamonak Ana) and then to a sense of pride in their homeland and its army (Helm Al-Ard). He also took them on a folkloric joy voyage and the legendary Baalbecki Dabke (Alawah, Gheibi Ya Shams, Ala Ayn Moulayite, Ya Zghiri…), demonstrating his amazing talent and touching emotions with the beauty of his voice. The audience’s emotions were captured as the stage vibrated with his popular melodies.
The Al Majd Performance Group, led by artist Khaled Al-Naboush, accompanied Melhem Zein on the second night, giving a blend of legacy, authenticity, and the Lebanese traditional touch to the magical evening. However, for unknown reasons, the Majd Performance Group was not present on the first night, exclusive to the people of Baalbeck.
Melhem Zein’s performances at the Baalbeck International Festival were nothing short of spectacular. He skillfully transported the audience into a world of romance, pride, and folklore joy with his powerful voice, captivating stage presence, and repertoire of lovely tunes. His performances created an indelible effect on the audience and restored the glory and grandeur of the ancient Baalbeck architecture.
Melhem Zein’s love for his city and profound connection with the audience shone through the two evenings, making it an unforgettable experience for everybody. Al Majd Performance Group’s involvement on the second night offered another dimension of cultural richness and boosted the overall mood of the event. On the third evening of the 2023 Baalbeck International Festivals, the iconic Temple of Bacchus came alive with a stunning performance by the renowned Spanish artist Nacho Arimany and the talented Lebanese singer Fabian Daher. The event drew an esteemed audience, including the ambassadors of Spain, Jesús Santos Aguado; Belgium, Queen Verfak; Denmark, Christopher Vivek; and Colombia, Lina Vanessa Varela FitzGerald. Also in attendance were Yolanda Soller Onis, director of the Sursock Institute in Beirut, acting mayor of Baalbeck Mustafa Al-Shal, Baalbeck-Hermel governor Bashir Khodr, and Naela de Freige, president of the festival committee.
Nayla De Freige warmly welcomed the attendees and expressed her gratitude for their presence. She stated, “Thank you all for being with us tonight for the concert ‘Roots in Our Hands: From Spain to Lebanon,’ an event crafted to foster a musical and vocal dialogue between Spain and Lebanon.”
She further added, “An exceptionally gifted artist, peace messenger, composer, and multi-instrumentalist have collaborated to bring this performance to life as part of the Baalbeck Festival. This remarkable individual is none other than Nacho Arimany, a singer who has gathered an outstanding ensemble of musicians, singers, and dancers, all of whom have contributed to this unforgettable evening.”

The musical journey began with Nacho Arimany’s captivating composition, “Roots in Our Hands,” a piece deeply inspired by his profound connection to Lebanon. Joined by a talented Spanish flamenco dancer, Arimany and his ensemble crafted a rich and harmonious dialogue, blending the artistry of Lebanese and Spanish musicians into a truly unique performance.
In the second phase of the performance, the Saint Joseph University Choir, led by Yasmina Sabah, joined forces with Lebanese singer Fabian Daher. Together, they engaged in a seamless dialogue that blended Arabic music with classical Spanish traditions, particularly flamenco. This collaboration took the audience on a deep cultural journey, tracing the rich heritage and roots of both musical worlds across the centuries.

750 women graduated from the Teaching Women Enhanced English Program , Second Cohort, on the 1st of July, in a big ceremony, at Unesco Palace, in the presence of the Cultural Affairs Assistant, Edith Bitar, Major Vlade Sharbaji representing the General Director of the ISF, Major General Imad Outhman, , partners, teachers, trainers, and journalists.
After the Lebanese and American National Anthems, The Project Manager, Nada Toufaily, presented the different phases and components of the project where women learned 100 hours of Enhanced English and 60 hours of releated training topics in 31 regions for 6 months.
The Founder and Director of USPEaK, Rawan Yaghi, focused in her speech on the goals of the program and the topics and shared the results of the program, in which one third of the participants started new jobs or businesses with an income, and many became politically active, in addition to the participation of these participants in public life.
The applied curriculum intended to amplified the message of women empowerment and citizenship. She showed gratitude to the relation built with the #CIMIC where women were able to know more about the Civil Military Cooperation in The LAF. She thanked the U.S. Embassy Beirut, partners and teachers.
Furthermore, the U.S. Ambassador in Beirut, Mrs. Dorothy Shea, talked to the participants and expressed her pride towards them and their success, and thanked USPEaK for their constructive cooperation with the Embassy to make an impact.

Mrs. Edith Bitar, congratulated the graduates on behalf of the U.S. Embassy Beirut who funded this program. Mrs. Bitar expressed her love to this program that empowered women all over lebanon.

On a magnificent night, as the structures of Baalbek aligned with the tranquil city sky, the Italian ballet team presented a stunning performance on the ancient Roman Temple of Bacchus. Led by Roberto Belle, the team delivered an exceptional show, captivating the audience who applauded enthusiastically after each segment, making it an unforgettable night.
The International Baalbeck Festival opened its summer season with a ballet performance at the Temple of Jupiter in the Baalbek Citadel. The event was attended by notable dignitaries, diplomats, and artists. Among them were Judge Mohammed Wissam Al-Mortada, the Minister of Culture in the caretaker government, and Walid Nassar, the Minister of Tourism, represented by Joel Hajjar. Also in attendance were Governor of Baalbeck-Hermel Bashir Khodr and ambassadors from various countries, including Dorothy Shea from the United States, Nicoletta Bombardieri from Italy, Annikka Mokkanen from Finland, Ali Barış Ulusoy from Turkey, Ann Desmet from Sweden, Andreas Kindle from Germany, Jesús Santos Aguado from Spain, Il Park from Korea, Hans Peter van Daar Voda from the Netherlands, Katerina Vintolaki from Greece, Marion Weichelt Krupski from Switzerland, and Radu Catalin Mardar from Romania.
Nayla De Freije, the president of the Baalbeck International Festival, praised Italy’s support in restoring Baalbeck’s archaeological site. Renowned dancer Roberto Bolle performed nine captivating dance pieces with guests. De Freije highlighted Bolle’s achievements and expressed gratitude for Senator Joëlle Garriaud-Maylam’s presence. Despite challenges, the festival aims to preserve Lebanon’s cultural identity and inspire hope.
In an enchanting evening of ballet, the Baalbeck International Festival featured nine dance pieces accompanied by selected musical compositions from renowned musicians such as Astor Piazzolla, Ludovico Einaudi, Yann Tiersen, César Franck, Azio Corghi, Camille Saint-Saëns, Frank Sinatra, Alessandro, and the artist group walkSound.
Choreography was masterfully crafted by Massimiliano Volpini, Marius Petipa, Patrick de Bana, Michel Fokin, and Twyla Tharp, while Claude Broumachon, Philippe Kratz, and Mauro Bigonzetti designed the dance movements.
The performance began with the stellar dancer Roberto Bolle in the first piece, “ALMA PORTENA,” accompanied in its second segment by dancer Anna Tsigankova and violinist Alessandro Quartararo.
A mesmerizing ballet scene unfolded with “Don Quixote,” featuring the artists Lyudmila Konovalova and Bakhtiyar Adamzhan.
The third presentation, titled “The Untamed,” showcased the duo of Roberto Bolle and Travis Clausen-Knight.
The artists Yolanda Correa and Riccardo Castellanos delivered a captivating performance in the piece “Esmeralda.”
Roberto Bolle showcased his brilliance in a solo piece titled “In Your Dark Eyes.”
The audience was captivated by Lyudmila Konovalova’s portrayal of the rebellious “Dying Swan.”
The duo of Roberto Bolle and Anna Tsigankova mesmerized the audience with their performance in the piece “Sinatra Suite.”
The grand finale, choreographed by the world-renowned dancer Roberto Bolle, accompanied by the soulful violin playing of Alessandro Quartararo, was titled “The Ball.” This piece simulated the Earth, engaging in a dialogue through Bolle’s body language and culminating in a powerful lift, accompanied by the magnificent sound effects crafted by lighting designer Valerio Tiberi.

The USPEaK organization, in collaboration with the Lebanese Environmental Movement, hosted a groundbreaking conference titled “Navigating Environmental Challenges in Northern Bekaa for a Sustainable Future,” under the esteemed governance of Dr. Nasser Yassin, the Minister of Environment. This significant event aimed to shed light on pressing environmental issues in the region and explore viable solutions for a sustainable future. At the organization’s center in Baalbek, distinguished guests gathered to discuss the critical need for environmental care and action, including officials from various governmental bodies and social groups.
Rawan Yaghi, President of the USPEaK organization, emphasized the significance of collaboration, highlighting how working together saves time and enhances critical thinking. Drawing attention to the alarming statistic that 60% of climate change is caused by human activities, Yaghi outlined the association’s core objectives, which include education, equality, social protection, and combating extremism. She stressed the importance of fostering cooperation among all segments of society.
Minister of Environment Nasser Yassin, in a remote intervention, underscored the crucial role of environmental stewardship in the Bekaa region. He emphasized the need to reduce chronic pollution and address pollution in the Litani River through initiatives such as the World Bank’s new project, the completion of the sewage network in central Bekaa, and effective wastewater treatment. Minister Yassin also highlighted collaborative efforts with UNICEF to rehabilitate non-functional sewage treatment plants in Jabal Jeneen and Iaat, as well as the establishment of the Nasiriya station in central Bekaa. He stressed the importance of coordination with the Ministries of Health, Agriculture, Energy, and Water to ensure the protection of natural resources.
Fadlallah Hassouna, President of the Lebanese Environmental Movement, passionately emphasized the significance of preserving the environment as a sacred trust passed down from our ancestors. Expressing concern over severe environmental violations and the high percentage of cancer patients in the Bekaa region due to pollution, he called for the election of a president, the formation of a government, and collective efforts toward progress and recovery.
The conference featured two engaging sessions. The first session, moderated by Farah Kanaan, included esteemed speakers such as Habiba Zaatar, Omar Al-Mays, Bassem Al-Zain, and Nada Al-Shal, who shared valuable insights and experiences. The second session, moderated by journalist Mustafa Raad, brought together Ibrahim Hawi, Jihad Haider, Hussein Abu Hamdan, and Karim Raad, who further delved into the challenges at hand and proposed potential solutions.
