Lebanon is a country that is constantly in crisis, but the situation in Lebanon was never so bleak. In 2021, a number of factors were at play that led to the country’s financial collapse. The Beirut port explosion which killed more than 40 people and injured 400 was just the beginning of Lebanon’s struggles. Lebanon faced a series of crises that it hadn’t seen before. The Committee on Foreign Relations in the US Congress praises the integrity of Judge Bitar

A number of representatives in the US Congress called on the Lebanese government to preserve the safety of the judges, who are investigating the horrific explosion that rocked the port of Beirut on the fourth of August last year (2020), leaving more than 210 people dead.

A statement issued by the Congressional Foreign Relations Committee expressed concern about “Hezbollah’s role in pushing for the decision to suspend this sensitive investigation.”

The statement also praised the integrity of the judicial investigator looking into the Beirut Port Explosion file, Judge Tariq Bitar, considering that he is a respected judge, who served his country for more than a decade.

In addition, the signatories to the statement considered that the Lebanese government should ensure the safety of judges and investigators, in order to complete their duties and end the investigation.

Al Jadeed: Judge Bitar issued a note to bring Hassan Diab and set a date of September 20th for hearing.

According to Al-Jadeed Channel, the criminal investigator in the case of the explosion of Beirut port, Judge Bitar, considered there was no legal value for the responding of the Council of Ministers regarding his incompetence to question the re-examination of the re-resident government, Hassan Diab. He issued a note against him and set a date of September 20th for hearing.
